Overview

Massage.physio.co.uk provide opportunities for school and college leavers looking to start a career in sports massage therapy. We provide apprenticeship opportunities for students to join our expanding team.

Our sport massage apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for people with a strong interest in massage therapy and / or physiotherapy to work in a clinical setting to develop assessment and treatment skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprentices will work with a team consisting of sports massage therapists and physiotherapists. Apprentices will have the opportunity to take on their own caseload of massage therapy patients. This is a fast paced role where you will be working on developing our services and providing massage therapy to many new clients as our skills evolve and grow. We look for apprentices that are passionate about delivering excellent patient care and look to give the best possible treatment to their clients.

Our apprenticeships last one year and are based either in Liverpool or Manchester. Our apprentices go on to become full time sports massage therapists, or onto further education.

What the apprenticeship includes

Our sports massage therapy apprenticeships are based one day a week from college and four days a week from our clinics.

The sports therapy apprentice role includes:

  • To contribute to service delivery
  • To provide great services to clients
  • To work towards becoming a sports massage therapist providing assessments and treatments to own designated caseload of patients.
  • To maintain up to date sports massage therapy patient records.
  • To liaise with other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal patient care.
  • To assist qualified therapists in providing assessments and treatments when patients require physical input from more than one team member.
  • To participate in learning opportunities and activities designed to support own professional development and overall service improvement.
  • To attend college on a weekly basis or as per timetable in order to support successful completion of professional qualifications.

Entry requirements

Apprentices must have the following prior to starting the course:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs

We expect apprentices to be interested in sports massage therapy / physiotherapy and have a basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. We look for apprentices that are ambitious, friendly and approachable. We are looking for apprentices that are capable of working independently and using their initiative to solve problems, but also great team players.

Our ideal applicant will be an honest and reliable individual, who is passionate about providing the highest treatments and achieving the best possible results for their clients. You should be keen to learn new skills, committed to their professional development, willing to take on new challenges and proactive and flexible in their approach.


What does it take to be successful in this role?

To be successful within this role you would need to:

  • Ability to continue into further learning/training
  • The ability to perform basic massage therapy to family members or friends (in a non-professional environment)
  • Basic knowledge surrounding massage therapy incl. Benefits, contraindications, techniques etc.
  • High-quality training provided by our greatly experienced therapists
  • 100% support given by the therapists both during and after the course has taken place

Structure

As an apprentice, your week will be divided into working in clinic, where you will get hands on experience with our clients and team, and attending college, where you will work towards gaining a qualification.

Our apprenticeships are part of the national apprenticeship scheme, where the successful candidate will be enrolled on the highly recognised level 3 massage therapy apprenticeship.

Following the completion of the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will have achieved a level 3 qualification and will be in a position to progress further with the company and continue with further training, which could include a level 4 massage qualification, or physiotherapy qualifications.

FAQs

Do I need any qualifications to attend this course?

You do not need any previous qualifications to attend this course. This is a 2-day basic introduction to massage therapy course so as long as you have an interest in that area, then you are more than welcome to attend.

What is involved within the course?

The 2-day course will be mainly practical based, however, there will be elements of theory added throughout. The main aim of this course is to give you a basic introduction to the main techniques used within the practice. From here, you can choose to attend further course in order to become a qualified massage therapist or you can use the skills and techniques learnt throughout the course on friends and family as a little treat. Where this course does not qualify you to perform massage therapy in a professional practice, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Are there any exams involved within the course?

As this is only an introduction to massage course, there will be no exams to complete at the end of the course.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing is always recommended when attending this course. Due to the high level of practical based learning, we also recommend you wear or bring with you clothing such as shorts and a vest top to make it easier to practice massage techniques on each other.

Do I need insurance?

No, you will not need insurance whilst on this course. If you wish to take massage therapy further and are looking for a career in this area, you will need insurance to perform massage therapy in a professional environment. You will only be able to gain this type insurance once fully qualified.

What/who will this course qualify me to treat?

This course will not qualify you to practice massage therapy in a professional environment. This course is only intended as an introduction to massage therapy so you will not be able to gain the insurance to perform this clinically.

Do we still get support after the course?

You will get 100% support from out therapists running the course throughout and after the course. Our therapists will always be available for advice and support around this topic.

Are there any further courses I can attend to qualify me to perform massage in a professional environment?

If you are looking to further your learning in massage therapy, the next step is attending a full level 3 massage therapy course. On completion of your level 3 massage therapy course, you will be able to gain the insurance needed to perform massage therapist clinically. Further advice and details can be given by the therapist running the introductory course.
